The
UCR Chemistry Graduate Program offers the opportunity to
perform cutting-edge research in a relaxed and friendly
environment. The opening of our new Chemistry building in
February 2005 provides modern laboratories and state-of-the-art
facilities. Well-prepared students typically complete their
course work in their first year of study. The Ph.D. is primarily
a research degree with most students completing their graduate
work after 4 or 5 years of intensive effort. In addition
to research in the traditional sub-disciplines of Analytical,
Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry, students can
take advantage of a variety of cross-cutting and interdisciplinary
research opportunities available in the areas of Bioanalytical,
Environmental and Materials Chemistry as well as in
Chemical Genomics
(supported by the NSF IGERT program). We feel that our department
offers an excellent environment for graduate study, combining
the facilities, quality and breadth of research of a large
university with the close student-faculty interaction most
easily achieved in a closely-knit department.
